Hair Transplant Guide · Updated 24 October 2026
Understand the separate stages of graft extraction and implantation, and the questions that matter beyond a technique name.
Two stages of transplantation
Grafts are first extracted from the donor area and then placed in the planned recipient areas. Distinguishing the tools and methods used at each stage helps avoid misleading comparisons. Both stages require medical assessment and appropriate planning.
FUE extraction
Follicular units are individually separated from surrounding tissue using small circular cutting instruments. Instrument choice, harvesting distribution and donor characteristics form part of the plan. Not needing stitches does not mean the procedure is non-surgical or scar-free.
DHI implantation
Prepared grafts are loaded into implanter pens for placement. With sharp implanters, the entry and graft placement can take place in the same action. At our clinic, Dr. Kinyas performs DHI implantation without a separate pre-made channel stage.
Questions beyond the name
Ask who designs the hairline and donor plan, who performs each stage, how grafts are prepared and protected, and how donor limits and aftercare are managed. No technique name guarantees the best result for every person.
