How Is a Natural Hairline Designed?
How Is a Natural Hairline Designed? Read about the biological basis, individual planning and clinical considerations.
What is a doll-like hairline?
The artificial appearance sometimes described as a doll-like or grass-like hairline may be associated with excessively upright implantation, conspicuous clusters of multi-hair grafts at the front, or a line that does not suit facial proportions. There is no single cause.
Why are single-hair grafts used?
A natural hairline usually creates a soft transition with single-hair follicular units. Multi-hair units farther back may support coverage. Hair diameter matters as much as graft selection.
How are angle and direction determined?
Hairline, temple and crown hairs emerge in different directions. No single angle applies to every patient and every region. Existing hair flow and scalp curvature must be considered.
A straight line or a zigzag?
A natural hairline should not look ruler-drawn, but excessively random zigzags can also appear artificial. The goal is a main contour balanced with the face and controlled small-scale irregularity.
The KSD approach and questions
KSD planning considers design and graft sorting together. Does DHI guarantee a natural result? No: the implantation tool alone is insufficient. How low should the hairline be? This depends on age, facial proportions and possible future loss.
